The SUNY Orange World Music and Culture Series presents Trumpets Through Time, a lecture recital by trumpeter Dr. John Charles Thomas, accompanied by pianist Hyunmee Lee on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 7pm in the Great Room, Kaplan Hall 101. (Snow date for this event will be February 23, 2012)
Trumpet virtuoso John Charles Thomas and pianist Hyunmee Lee will present a program of music illustrating the history and development of the trumpet.
For this program, many original and reproduction instruments will be played: reproductions of the Renaissance cornetto and Baroque trumpet, instruments dating back to the early 19th century (keyed bugle, over-the-shoulder saxhorn, echo cornet) along with the modern trumpet. Works from Italy, Germany, Romania, Spain, and the United States will be featured.
This program will allow one to listen and witness the development of one of the most popular musical instruments today, the trumpet.
This event is sponsored by Cultural Affairs at the SUNY Orange Newburgh Campus.
