The Major girls headed back to the Town of Walkill last night to complete a postponed game from the previous night's rain and walked away with the District 19 Championship.
When the game re-started, Cornwall was up 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. Cornwall held Walden scoreless in the fourth.
Winning pitcher Allison Scott had an RBI single to put Cornwall up 3-0 in the fifth inning and Sam Sarda scored for Walden in the bottom of the fifth to put Walden on the board. Dylana Bicknese's RBI single increased Cornwall's lead to 4-1 in the sixth inning. Walden scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game 4-4. But Cornwall center fielder Olivia Jebb dived head-first to make an inning-ending catch, which stranded a runner on second base and ended Walden's rally.
Megan Staudle's two-out RBI single in the bottom of seventh inning lifted Cornwall to a 5-4 win over Walden in the District 19 major girls' title game at Town of Wallkill.
