Anyway you want to cull the deer population is fine with me, but it needs to be done. Secondly lets round up the Geese at PooP Park and feed them to the homeless this winter. This has been done and Rockland Lake in the past with great results. The fecal matter in the picture perfect park is a health hazard. Let the PETA people have their annual picknick there and enjoy all the goose Poop.

I agree. We should sell it at the new co-op. My wife paid obscene money (like $50) a few years ago for a goose only half as fat as the fine, grass-fed examples in our parks. It's just another example of an outdated conservation/safety policy run amok.

That these animals (deer and geese) have survived at all is evidence of their prodigious powers of reproduction. When their populations cease to be reduced by hunting and predators, you're headed for a problem.

I did volunteer work for an upstate county health dept, and they actually had to close beaches on one of the Finger Lakes due to high coliform counts. DNA evidence linked the bacteria in large measure to geese and seagulls.

It's the same overpopulation problem, just a different set of environmental impacts.

Jon,

With the recent downing of the Airbus 320 into the Hudson River I wonder if our P.E T.A. friends still believe we should not disturb our feathered friends living next to our airports. That was a pet peeve of mine long ago as an ATC. Priorities should be to the passengers on our planes. I don't see how anyone can see it any other way. PooP park in the Town still looks beautiful from afar.

A few years back I presented the town supervisor , the village mayor and each board member with photos of our local park area and the goose droppings. Also included in their packets were documents regarding health issues. The only active response was from the town, but a control proposal was aborted due to job description issues, as I understand it. One sucessful alternative has been with the use of motorized, radio-controlled, toy vehicles. How about an eagle scout proposing a project, or other local groups or individuals offering a few hours per week to play with these toys?
