General News: Volunteers Needed for 4th of July Pageant
June 13, 2011
The organizers of the Cornwall Independence Day historical pageant are looking for volunteers to play a role on stage as one of the people who had a role in Cornwall’s history.
The annual 4th of July pageant, “Courage in Cornwall: Highlights of Our Heritage,” is a fast-moving presentation of local events beginning more than four hundred years when Native Americans lived along the river up through the American Revolution. The pageant was first produced some fifty years ago when the 4th of July celebration was held on Donahue Farm in Cornwall-on-Hudson and it has been kept alive by a band of volunteers spearheaded by Dr. Sally Faith Dorfman-Sirota.
Volunteers of all ages are needed to tell the story of Cornwall’s founding, colonial life, and its contributions to the Revolution and Dorfman-Sirota reminds people that there are only two rehearsals and one dress rehearsal leading up to the performance. Participation in the 4th of July parade is optional. The pageant will be performed at 6:30 pm at Rings Pond in Cornwall.
The rehearsal schedule is:
Sunday, June 26, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Cornwall Elementary @ Lee Road
Saturday, July 2, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. also at Lee Road school
Sunday, July 3, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. (dress rehearsal) by Rings Pond
Anyone interested in having a role in this year’s pageant may contact Sally Faith Dorfman-Sirota at 534-2754 or [email protected].
