People have called the drive along the edge of Storm King Mountain one of the most scenic in New York State.
Artists and photographers have been drawn to it and tried to capture the beauty of the place.
Recently, Karen Shaack took a breathtaking photo of the sun bursting over the mountain, falling on the snow-covered road that had not been disturbed by any passing cars. Her view is looking south, into the golden rays that are breaking through the dark clouds that hover over the highlands.
This past Sunday, after the snow had melted, Tom Doyle was driving up the road from West Point at 9 a.m. and saw that the light was exactly what he had been waiting for. His photos are shot looking north from the roadside. He calls them "Taking the High Road."

Great pictures of 218 but as I get older it's too scary to drive over.
