Library Hits 10,000 Member Mark
CORNWALL, NY – Orange County libraries are thriving and here in Cornwall it’s no different. Last month, the Cornwall Public Library surpassed the 10,000 member mark. In September alone, the library issued 93 new cards. In a service area that encompasses 16,841 people, this outreach is impressive. “Our community is the heart of our library and it warms ours to know that we are able to serve so many. We have strong relationships with our local teachers and schools and that’s enabled us to collaborate on behalf of students and their families,” says library director, Mary Lou Carolan. “Teachers and parents have been instrumental in encouraging their kids to get library cards so they can have access to all we offer both on-site, and 24/7 via our on-line catalogue, research and study tools.”
When Isabella Demaria, age 9, came in to get her library card, she was one of the first new members to put the library over the 10,000 mark. Her mom, Irene Bellis, loves how kid-friendly the library is, and Isabella was excited to be able to check out her favorite books on her own card. When asked about her favorite author, she emphatically stated Wings of Fire by Tui Sutherland.
