County Executive Neuhaus joins local elected officials for re-opening of Taylor Road Bridge
Approximately 1,400 vehicles use the 48-foot long bridge every day
Goshen, N.Y. - Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus participated in a ceremonial ribbon cutting with other local dignitaries on Monday to celebrate the re-opening of the Taylor Road Bridge in Cornwall.
Neuhaus was joined at the event by Department of Public Works Commissioner Chris Viebrock, representatives from Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’s office and Orange County Legislators Kevin Hines and Barry Cheney.
“When I first took office, I made a commitment to restoring Orange County’s infrastructure,” Neuhaus said. “The re-opening of the Taylor Road Bridge is another example of that effort. The bridge provides safety and convenience for residents in this part of the County. I’m proud of this project and the work Orange County continues to accomplish with our partners in state and federal government.”
Neuhaus and several of the speakers at the event thanked Viebrock and Orange County’s Department of Public Works for the important role they played in the revitalization of the Taylor Road Bridge.
The Taylor Road Bridge had been closed since May of 2016 for replacement due to structural deficiencies. It spans the Woodbury Creek and is an important route for residents traveling between Cornwall and Woodbury. The Taylor Road Bridge is 48 feet long and is crossed by approximately 1,400 vehicles each day. The project budget was approximately $2 million and repair work was 80 percent Federally-funded, eight percent State, and 12 percent County.
“Having gone without this bridge for five months, now more than ever we realize how important the Taylor Road Bridge is for the residents of this area, the members of Black Rock Fish and Game Club and the Mountainville Fire Company,” said Legislator Hines, who represents Cornwall and parts of New Windsor and Blooming Grove. “The County took ownership of a bridge in desperate need of replacement. We look forward to turning it back over to the Town of Cornwall in its improved condition without the undue burden on the local taxpayers. This project is a success for all levels of government.”
