CCHS Drama Presents the Wiz
Cornwall Central High School’s Drama Club and Music Department are delighted to present the musical classic – The Wiz – on April 7th through April 10th.
The Wiz infuses L. Frank Baum's classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with a dazzling mix of rock, gospel, and soul music. It follows Dorothy as she travels from the emptiness of Kansas (or so she thinks) to the vibrant and often times dangerous land of Oz. Along the way, she is unceasingly supported by her new found friends, tempted by the darker forces, and learns a life-lesson or two, the most important of which is to look inside our hearts to find a world full of love.
Although there are many of the same characters from the beloved children’s classic, there is a deeper, more sophisticated tone to The Wiz. We also get to meet a few new characters who are sure to beguile and bewitch. And, we are introduced to a musical score that will lift our spirits, sear our souls, and linger long after the curtain drops.
This high-energy, super soulful musical features music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls and and book by William F. Brown. The Wiz was a huge success when it hit the Broadway stage in 1975, winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.
Performances are April 7th through April 9th at 7pm, and April 10th at 2pm. Thursday, April 7, all seats are $10 except for Premium seats which are $16. Friday - Sunday, April 8 - 10: Adults, $12;; Students and Seniors, $10;; except for Premium seats which are $16. Tickets can be purchased online at cchsny.booktix.com. So, make sure you ease on down the road to Cornwall Central High School to see one of the most endearing and entertaining musicals to ever hit the stage. You will be glad you did . . . and we ain’t “lion”!
