Assemblyman Skoufis: New York soldiers killed in action to be rightfully honored as heroes
“On Monday, a suicide bomber in Afghanistan drove a motorcycle into a NATO convoy, killing six American soldiers. Two of the soldiers who tragically lost their lives were Air National Guard Technical Sgt. Joseph Lemm of West Harrison, NY and Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa from Coram, NY. Both soldiers served with the 105th Airlift Wing at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh.
“Technical Sgt. embodied the definition of selfless courage. As a member of the New York Air National Guard, he served his country with two tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. He also spent 15 years with the NYPD, and was a proud public servant. He showcased true dedication to protecting others and his bravery will never be forgotten.
“Staff Sgt. Bonacasa personified dedication. As a member of the New York Air National Guard, he was deployed on four tours overseas, enlisting immediately after graduating high school in 2002. He was a committed family man, leaving a wife with whom he was planning to buy a house with after his deployment and a daughter. Making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country, he is a true hero in every sense of the word.”
