CORNWALL, NY - On Monday, July 6th, the town board held its monthly work session. The audience was sparse, considering the session started off with the Public Hearing on the removal of parts of both Taken Road and Station Road. Plans on removing these sections are still in the works.
The Cornwall Highway Department has plans to completely repave the older section of Quaker Mill, and possibly Pelham Drive in the coming months. Next year the hope is to repave the newer section of Quaker Mill, and Pelham Drive if funds will not allow it to be redone this year.
The board is still researching the Solar Panels. Their next step is looking into the contracts with the solar company. The board is also coming up with building site options, pending on the solar panel requirements. The landfill is a top contender for the panel building site.
The Board received invoices from Mary Ellen Hern and Marilyn Kaplan, the Grant Writer and Preservation Architect hired by the town for Sands Ring. Town Supervisor, Randy Clark said that they were “Hefty Bills”. However, the bills did not exceed the original estimate. He went on to say that the Friends of Sands Ring received a few large donations recently and he was expecting the Friends of Sands Ring to “front part of the bills.” His statement was met with shock and disbelief by both attendees and the rest of the Town Board. In March of this year, the board went ahead and hired both Hern and Kaplan, with the understanding that the town was paying for their services. The other board member told Clark that they never expected that the Friends of Sands Ring to pay the bills of the town hires. Supervisor Clark then said that he wanted to see the vouchers from the recent donations before he changed topics.
