He taught in Guilderland Central and Vails Gate Elementary School the first four years of his career. While at Vails Gate, he was a volunteer football coach at Cornwall Central School District until he was hired as a teacher and coach in 1961. Glen coached various sports at all levels for the rest of his tenure including girls modified soccer in the fall season of 2014 before he became ill. Glen served as JV and Varsity baseball coach for 13 seasons earning the OCIAA Baseball Coach of the Year in 1969. He became Interim Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for Monroe Woodbury in 1987-88 which was an experience he thoroughly enjoyed. Since 1988, Glen has served as CCHS Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach. In 2009, the CCSD honored him by renaming the Holiday Tournament “The Glen M. McGinnis Holiday Tournament”. Glen was inducted into the SUNY Brockport Hall of Fame as a member of the 1955 National Champion Soccer Team.

Glen loved his church, family, country and Cornwall community and served it in many ways. He was a weekly Communicant at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church. He served as a director of summer programs for both the Town of Cornwall and The Village of Cornwall -on-Hudson. He was the director of the Cornwall Town Pool and taught swimming and lifeguard certification for many years. He also was a founding member of the Cornwall Swim Team and Little League Committee. Glen was blessed with the talent of connecting to all people but especially children and young people. He once stated in an interview “that you have to let kids know that you care.” He was a former member of Storm King Engine Company #2 and Cornwall Lions Club, and a current member of the Cornwall Historical Society. Glen championed the passing of the school budgets for quality education and athletics.

The Town of Cornwall was truly blessed to have this magnificent man looking after its children all these years. The seeds he planted in his life will continue to serve the community for many years to come. RIP Coach.
