General News: Notes from the Village Board Meeting

July 30, 2015

Notes from the Village Board Meeting
Officer Jill Nye Awarded, and PCB Dredging.
By: Emma Friedrich

CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON, NY – On Monday, July 20th, the Village of Cornwall held their monthly meeting, with Police Chief Steve Dixon was in attendance.

The meeting started off on a celebratory note. Officer Jill Nye was awarded with the Lifesaving Award. On the morning of May 14th a call went out that a male was unresponsive. Officer Nye, on duty at the time, quickly answered the call and performed CPR until Paramedics arrived. She continued CPR as he was placed in the ambulance. The first few minutes are critical and because of Officer Nye’s quick response she saved his life, and he is now home with his family. Unfortunately Officer Nye was unable to attend the meeting; however Police Chief Dixon attended in her stead. She received the Lifesaver Award certificate and a bar pin, to be placed above her badge.

The Village Board will be sending a request to G.E. to continue and finish the PCB Dredging. G.E. said that the Hudson River cleanup was meeting goals, and that no more dredging was needed. However, one-third of PCB contaminates will be left if G.E. stops now, and those PCBs will re-spread with the current. G.E. was only required to clean two-thirds of the PCB contaminated sediments in the Hudson River. However, the Village of Cornwall will join more then 160 state legislators in sending letters to the G.E. CEO; encouraging the continuation of the Hudson cleanup.
