It is with deep sadness that the family of Katharine Assante announce her passing on June 29, 2011.
Born to Denis Francis Healy and Grace Hartnett Healy on October 16, 1921, in New York City, NY, she attended Hunter College and recieved her Master's Degree in Music from the Manhattan School of Music. She and her family moved to Cornwall in 1957.
Mrs. Assante retired from the Highland Falls School District where she taught music and formerly taught English as a substitute teacher at Monroe Woodbury. She taught piano privately in her home. A published poet, she was highly regarded in the community for her many poetry readings.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years Armand Assante, Sr., daughter, Denise Assante Gross and husband, Carey, son Armand Assante and grandchildren Anya and Alesandra, and daughter Andrea Assante.
A private service will be held. A memorial service to celebrate her life and memory will be held at a later date.
