Obituaries: Martin Andrew Grant

MARTIN ANDREW GRANT
October 27, 1967 – April 30, 2018
Cornwall, NY

Martin Andrew Grant, of Cornwall, NY died suddenly and unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on April 30, 2018 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 50 years old.

Martin was born in Syracuse, NY on October 27, 1967. He was the son of the late Dr. Martin B. Grant and is survived by his mother Joanne Smith Grant and his beloved sister, Jennifer Grant.

Martin was a graduate of Bishop Dunn Memorial School in Newburgh and Cornwall Central High School. He was a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America in New York receiving a Gemologist Diploma in Diamonds and Diamond Grading. He owned and operated Alley Jewelers in Cornwall-On-Hudson and Gold Betta Antiques Ltd. at the Place des Antiquaires in New York City.

In addition to his mother and sister, Martin is survived by his uncles: Martin Smith (Marianne), Owen Smith (Charlene), and Fred Grant; as well as many cherished cousins who were confidantes and friends. In addition to his father, Martin was predeceased by his much missed uncles: Gary Smith (Kathy) and Douglas Smith.

Martin was charming, funny, loving, a sales person extraordinaire and very complicated. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4th at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Graveside Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 5th at St. Thomas Cemetery, Mailler Avenue, Cornwall, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions will be appreciated to The Arc of Orange County whose mission it is to create a person-centered environment that advocates for and supports people of all ages with unique abilities and challenges so they can live as respected members of the community, www.thearcoforange.org or 249 Broadway, Newburgh, NY 12550.
