Patrick F. Carton, of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on January 13, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old.
Son of the late John J. Carton and Sarah (McCullough) Carton, Patrick was born on June 25, 1930 in New York City, NY. He attended elementary school in the Bronx, high school at Iona Preparatory and received his degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, where he was recognized for his athletic ability in both track and field.
He worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years, retiring as a President from Willis Corroon, an International Insurance Brokerage firm. He looked forward to his weekly bible study, sharing a cup of coffee with family and friends at local restaurants, reading across all genres, and telling stories of days gone by. You would find him attending any events in which his children and grandchildren were participating. He loved to travel, and Ireland held a special place in his heart. He was a precious soul who was loved by all who knew him.
Patrick was a man of great faith. He loved God. He loved his wife; from the moment he first saw her across the room and he loved his family beyond measure. His passing is heralded by a generation of his making, and he would smile and beam with pride when he spoke about his family. If you were to ask anyone where his happy place was, they would say on his farm in Ireland. He always had a smile and a kind word for anyone he met, and somehow you left just a little bit better for having spent time with Patrick.
Patrick was predeceased by his loving wife Eileen T. Carton in 2005. He is survived by his sons: John (Fran) Carton of Newburgh, NY and Rob (Teresa) Carton of Cornwall, NY; his daughters: LiliAnn (Dana) Putnam of New Windsor, NY, Christine (George) Gardner of Altoona, PA and Irene (Blake) Mitchell of Huntsville, AL; Thirteen grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Patrick was predeceased by his sons: Patrick J. Carton and Dennis E. Carton.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17th at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St. Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 18th at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery, Cornwall, NY.
