Obituaries: Mark A. Murphy

March 10, 2017

Mark A. Murphy entered into eternal rest on March 6, 2017, in Flagler County, Florida after a long illness. He was 58 years old.

The oldest child and only son of the late John V. and Marie Arnold Murphy, Mark was born on September 20, 1958, in Newburgh, NY. He was raised in Cornwall-on-Hudson, graduating from St. Thomas of Canterbury School, Cornwall Central High School and Orange County Community College.

Mark loved the restaurant business and the beach and spent many happy years managing Finnegan's Beachside Pub in Flagler Beach, Florida. He moved back to Florida last year with plans to open his own restaurant. In between, Mark became a licensed massage therapist and spent several years as an over-the-road truck driver seeing the American countryside. Mark always had a smile, a joke, and a song; this world is a sadder place without him.

Mark is survived by his loving sisters: Catherine (Kitty) Murphy and her husband Richard Stecher of Campbell Hall, NY, and Suzanne Murphy Christoff, her husband Patrick Ierardi and son Michael Ierardi of Goshen, NY. Mark is also survived by his loving companion, Christina Vickers, whose devotion to Mark during his final illness was an inspiration to all who observed it. Christina's son, Brandon Currier, held a very special place in Mark's heart. Mark also leaves behind several aunts and uncles, as well as many cousins; Mark was always proud of his large extended family.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Visitation will be followed by a prayer service and inurnment at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor, NY.

A Funeral Mass was previously held on March 17th, at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 N. Central Avenue, Flagler Beach, FL; Reverend Alberto G. Esposito officiating.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the ICU at Florida Hospital Flagler for the outstanding care that they provided to Mark over the last months of his life.

Arrangements are entrusted to Quigley Bros. Funeral Home; to send condolences or to get directions to the funeral home, please go to www.Quigleybros.com
