Obituaries: Floranne T. Moulton

 Floranne T. Moulton entered into eternal rest on February 23, 2017 at Kaplan Hospice of Orange and Sullivan in Newburgh, NY. She was 86 years old.

The daughter of Elizabeth Hasbrouck Cameron Terwilliger and Norman Daniel Terwilliger, she was born on August 13, 1930 in Walden, NY.
Her family relocated to Cornwall-on-Hudson in the late 1940s. Floranne graduated as valedictorian from Walden High School, attended Syracuse University majoring in chemistry and graduated from SUNY New Paltz in 1952 with a BS in Education.

Floranne taught school on Long Island, in England and in several US states including Alaska as she traveled with her husband during his Air Force career. She began teaching at Cornwall Elementary School in the early 1970s, taught hundreds of children in fifth grade and became the school’s Head Teacher. She piloted environmental education at the school and developed a program that included student travel to the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) in Dingmans Ferry, PA, a very popular program with her students and their families. As long time chair of the Historic Sands Ring Homestead Committee she organized historical and educational programs for Cornwall school children. Floranne was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cornwall, where she served on the Altar Guild and sang in the choir. She was a member and arrangement judge of the Cornwall Garden Club, a member of the Orange and Dutchess Garden Club, as well as a member of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in Cornwall. Floranne was honored on July 4, 2016 as co-parade Grand Marshall along with husband for their service to Cornwall.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Edward, her children Anne Parkhurst and husband David of Derry, NH, son E. Curtis Moulton III and wife Janet of Ossining NY, and Mary Lee Koch and husband Alan of Prospect, CT; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Floranne was predeceased by her sister Bettyanne Gilmore in early 2017.

Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 7 pm on Friday March 3rd at Quigley Bros. Funeral Home, 337 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 66 Clinton Street, Cornwall, NY on Saturday March 4th at 12:00pm. Interment will be in St. John’s columbarium at the convenience of the family.
